What’s not to love about sangria?

Sangria is delicious and refreshing. It’s simple to make. It’s versatile – and so easy to personalize.

And when you consider the framework of your basic sangria recipe – wine + fruit + sweetness + spirit + a little bit of effervescence – it sort of sounds like a recipe for living a good life, too, doesn’t it?

Another essential ingredient of sangria is, of course, time. Once you put together your ingredients, you need to allow them to steep a while, to chill. Another thing so many of us need more of in our lives.

How I learned to love making sangria

When I first started making sangria, it was because I had a bottle of wine leftover from a party that I wasn’t sure what to do with. The result became the signature drink I served at summer parties – it was neighborhood famous!

As I grew more comfortable with tweaking my recipe, trying different wines and liqueurs and fruits (star-shaped pineapple slices for 4th of July!), I began to appreciate sangria as more than just something to drink.

The Tao of Wine & Fruit

There’s something about the experience of making sangria that feels artful and contemplative – the delight in shopping for the ingredients, the feeling of Zen as you focus your attention on slicing oranges and cutting strawberries, even the hours it takes for the finished product to reach perfection.

If you’ve ever gone Googling for the “official” sangria recipe, perhaps you’ve been frustrated to find that there isn’t one. It’s when you begin to play around with it that you discover that’s the beauty of sangria – like life, it is full of possibilities.

We started Sangrialicious to celebrate that.
