My inspiration for this luscious red sangria was nectarines, which suddenly appeared in the produce section of my grocery store like a sure sign that the warmer days of spring are on the way. In our neck of the woods, we’re already enjoying occasional springlike weather. And this red sangria recipe was perfect for sipping on one of those evenings when it’s temperate enough to watch the sunset from the patio.
Red Sangria Ingredients
I chose Red Guitar Spanish Old Vine Tempranillo, an authentic red blend, for the wine. In addition to nectarines, I selected blackberries and green muscato grapes. I wanted to add in some citrus flavors, too, so I planned to add a touch of Grand Marnier orange liqueur and a little orange juice, as well as a little rum and a 20-oz. bottle of lemon-lime soda.
Making Red Sangria
The first step in making sangria is always to wash and prepare the fruit. Then, I cored and cubed three nectarines. I added about half a pound of the grapes, which I cut into halves. And I used the entire 6-oz package of blackberries. Once the fruit was in the pitcher, I poured in 1/4 cup each of sugar, Grand Marnier, rum and orange juice. Then I added the entire bottle of wine.
After a gentle stir, the mixture went into the fridge, where it chilled, while those beautiful flavors mingled for about three hours. Before serving, I poured an entire 20-oz. bottle of lemon-lime soda into the pitcher. Served over ice, it was delicious!
I hope you’ll enjoy it, too. Cheers!
